Everyone has their own inner dialogue filling their head, but many don’t realize how hard they are on themselves. More often than you may think, people tend to talk to themselves in very negative and nasty ways. It may seem natural to think to yourself “How could you be so stupid?” when you lock the keys in your car, but you would never speak to a friend that way for making a common mental error.
You are what you think, and showing yourself the same grace, love and respect you give to others is an important step to a healthy self-esteem. Replace negative self-talk with positive thoughts. If you slip and find yourself being overly self-critical, remember that you’re human and it’s unfair to degrade yourself over mistakes.
